Paper-based Alternative To Multi-laminate

The new product pitched as a recyclable, paper-based alternative to multi-laminate plastic structures used for long shelf-life products.

One Barrier FibreCycle is the result of a collaboration between UPM, print equipment specialist Bobst and coatings firm Michelman. Janne Varvemaa, director, products and technology at UPM Specialty Papers, said: “This is a truly ground-breaking solution for foods with a long shelf-life. These products are usually packaged in a variety of plastic laminates or plastic structures that are not recyclable. Our aim was to produce a recyclable, paper-based packaging solution – and we can say ‘mission accomplished’.
